Community Advocacy Workshop

Module 3 – Planning Community Events

What to Expect

This workshop explores how to design and carry out advocacy events that energize your community and amplify your message. Whether you attend live or online, you’ll gain practical strategies for brainstorming ideas, building collaborations, and pitching events that create real impact.

Two Ways to Join

Option A: Live + Zoom (Synchronously)

  • Participate in collaborative event-planning exercises onsite or via Zoom.

  • Work in small groups to design advocacy event proposals.

  • Share your event pitch with peers and facilitators for live feedback.

  • Access planning templates, resource guides, and handouts during the session.

  • Vote on the most compelling event ideas and discuss why they resonate.

Option B: Asynchronous Online Engagement

  • View the recorded workshop and review planning templates at your own pace.

  • Access downloadable guides and checklists for community events.

  • Join the “Event Pitch Board”:

    • Post your event idea on Padlet.

    • Comment on at least one other participant’s event plan.

  • Submit your finalized event concept via Google Form or Padlet for personal feedback and recognition.

Workshop Objectives & Format

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop advocacy event ideas that align with community needs.

  • Apply ethos, pathos, and logos to strengthen your event pitch.

  • Gain confidence in presenting and refining event plans through peer and facilitator feedback.

Session Flow:

  1. Introduction & Purpose

    • Why events matter in advocacy and how they mobilize community support.

  2. Event Planning Lab

    • Collaborate in small groups to design impactful community event proposals.

  3. Pitch & Feedback

    • Present event ideas to peers; engage in live voting and reflection.

  4. Debrief & Reflection

    • Identify what makes an event compelling and actionable.

  5. Asynchronous Extensions (Online-Only)

    • Use downloadable planning templates and peer boards to share ideas.
